영상 제작 과정은 프리 프로덕션, 프로덕션, 포스트 프로덕션으로 나눠진다. 이 중에서 음향은 프로덕션 과정에서 동시 녹음을 진행하고, 포스트 프로덕션에서 폴리, 후시 녹음 등을 담당하게 된다. 이 때 이러한 포스트 프로덕션의 작업을 진행하는 스튜디오를 포스트 프로덕션 스튜디오 라고 한다.
포스트 프로덕션은 영싱 제작 과정에서 녹음된 음향 자료를 편집, 믹싱, 사운드 디자인, ADR(Additional Dialogue Recording), 폴리 등의 작업을 통해 최종 음향 트랙을 제작하는 단계를 말합니다. 이 단계에서 음향 감독, 사운드 디자이너, 믹싱 엔지니어 등이 협력하여 영화에 적절한 음향 환경과 효과를 부여합니다.
포스트 프로덕션의 첫 번째 단계는 음향 편집입니다. 이 단계에서는 녹음된 다양한 오디오 트랙을 편집하여 시간적, 공간적 흐름을 제어하고 필요한 부분을 선택합니다. 대화, 배경음악, 효과음 등의 트랙을 편집하여 장면 간의 음향 전환을 자연스럽게 만들거나 강조합니다.
다음으로, 사운드 디자인 단계에서는 영화에 필요한 특수 음향 효과를 제작합니다. 이 단계에서는 촬영 시에 녹음되지 않은 소리들이나 상상 속의 소리를 만들어내어 영화의 분위기나 장면을 강화합니다. 예를 들어, 폭발, 비행기 소음, 환각적인 사운드 등을 추가하거나 세밀한 소리 효과를 조합하여 영화의 리얼리티를 증강시킵니다.
The video production process is divided into pre-production, production, and post-production. Among these, audio work takes place during the production stage, including location recording, while post-production involves tasks such as Foley and additional dialogue recording (ADR). The studios where these post-production tasks are carried out are referred to as post-production studios.
Post-production, in the context of filmmaking, refers to the phase where recorded audio materials are edited, mixed, sound designed, and enhanced to create the final audio tracks. During this stage, audio directors, sound designers, mixing engineers, and other professionals collaborate to provide appropriate audio environments and effects for the film.
The first step in post-production is audio editing, where various recorded audio tracks are edited to control the temporal and spatial flow and select the necessary parts. Dialogues, background music, sound effects, and other tracks are edited to create smooth transitions between scenes or emphasize specific elements.
Next, in the sound design phase, special audio effects required for the film are created. During this stage, sounds that were not recorded during filming or imaginary sounds are generated to enhance the film's atmosphere or scenes. For example, adding explosions, airplane noises, hallucinatory sounds, or combining intricate sound effects to augment the film's realism.
