음원을 마이크에 근접하여 사용할 때 공기를 내뿜는 효과가 수반되는 음원에는 연주에 따른 공기의 충격이 마이크 캡슐에 전해져서 소리의 진동 이외의 다른 충격파가 마이크로 전달 될 수 있다. 이러한 충격파를 팝핑(Popping) 이라고 한다. 마이크는 소리를 받아들이는 장치 이지만, 소리가 충격파가 마이크 캡슐에 영향을 미치는 것은 소리의 녹음의 방해 요소 이다.

따라서 이러한 충격파가 마이크 캡슐로 전달되지 않도록 마이크의 전면 부에 필터를 배치 하여 사용하는 것을 팝 필터(Pop filter)라고 한다.

팝 필터는 여러가지 재질로 만들어져 있으며 재질에 따라 고음을 반사 하는 경우도 있고 고음을 흡수 하는 경우도 있기 때문에, 다양한 팝 필터에 따라 아주 미세하게 다른 소리의 결과물을 얻을 수 있다.

To prevent such shockwaves from being transmitted to the microphone capsule, a filter is placed on the front of the microphone, and this device is called a “pop filter.”

Pop filters are made from various materials, and depending on the material, they may reflect high-frequency sounds or absorb them. Therefore, different pop filters can yield slightly different audio results.
