최근에는 디지털 방식으로 만들어져 예전 아날로그 방식에 비해 훨씬 정확하며, 저렴한 모델의 경우 dBA 만 측정 가능한 경우가 있고, 좀 더 고급형의 경우는 dBA/dBC 등 여러가지 가중치 측정및 Leq 측정 등이 가능하다.

최근에는 dBA 측정의 경우는 스마트폰 어플로도 거의 정확한 결과를 보여준다.
