플러그인(Plugin)은 디지털 오디오 워크스테이션(Digital Audio Workstation, DAW) 소프트웨어에서 사용되는 확장 모듈 또는 추가 기능을 제공하는 소프트웨어 컴포넌트를 나타내는 용어입니다. DAW는 오디오 녹음, 편집, 믹싱 및 마스터링을 위한 툴을 제공하며, 플러그인은 이러한 DAW에 다양한 음향 처리와 효과를 추가하는 데 사용됩니다.

보통 대부분의 플러그인 포맷이 다른 회사에서도 개발할 수 있도록 SDK 나 API 등을 공개 하기 때문에 어떤 플러그인 포맷이던, 오리지널 뿐만 아니라 3rd party 제작사들도 많습니다.
